Helpful Tips When Choosing A Medicare Health Plan

Plan Ahead--- You are eligible to enroll in a Medicare insurance plan  3 months before your 65th birthday

Determine Your Needs--- Find out which type of  health plan will best suit your situation. Example: If you plan on traveling you may not want to enroll in a Medicare Advantage HMO plan since it may be hard to find network providers in some areas.

Check References--- It is usually beneficial to have a good representative help you through the process. Ask for 1 or 2 references. Any good insurance professional will appreciate you asking.

Consult A professional--- You will acheive the best results by finding someone who is armed with knowledge of the Medicare system. We suggest finding a broker or someone who has access to a variety of different Medicare related products and companies. This will give you more options and you will have someone to help you navigate through all of the Medicare options. 

Ask Questions--- Unfortunately Medicare rules and enrollment periods may change from year to year. There are many types of insurance plans and some have restrictions or different procedures.

Check Network Coverage--- If you enroll in an HMO plan you are usually required to see a network provider for medical services while most PPO plans will allow some flexibility but you will pay a higher co pay when using non network providers. If you live in certain areas your choice of providers may be very limited. Medicare supplement plans will work nationwide but usually have much higher monthly premiums.
